new, improved learning goal

By the end of the semester, students in GenEd 111, Section 20 will have developed a rudimentary knowledge of how events and trends in human history over the past 500 years have come to affect the contemporary word. To accomplish this, students may employ a comparative perspective, such as a comparison of different cultures. Students will be encouraged to learn about and use concepts, rather than memorize facts, to help them address questions about how current events fit within that history and may affect their future lives. Furthermore, students in this class will develop their critical thinking skills so as to improve their ability to express their ideas coherently and cogently, as well as provide input into the direction of the course.
